Starting a new term is no source for celebration among the Summerdown staff. Between his moans and gripes Simon manages to mistake new languages tutor JP for a sixth former, and buxom newcomer Penny receives a lot of attention from the men. Recently divorced Susan turns on the charms with JP, and Brian meets his ultimate nemesis in the form of Liz's daughter.
Carol continues to pursue Kurt despite his insistence their relationship is over, even after he attempts to fool her into thinking Penny is his new girlfriend. Meanwhile, Bob gets drunk with Simon - and reveals he hasn't had sex in 23 years.
Jenny's house-shaking romping with new boyfriend Alec is driving Susan crazy, so when Simon asks her to get a flat with him, she agrees. However, on the back of advice from Brian and Kurt, Simon then convinces himself he fancies her...
When JP comes out to the rest of the teachers, Simon, Kurt and Susan begin a campaign of wind-ups against Brian. But with JP's help, Brian finds a way to get his own back.

Most of the teachers are unimpressed by the infant - 'all babies are good for is making baby oil' - but Susan falls in love with the child and desperately wants one of her own. She doesn't need a father, just good genetic material...
Jenny decides it's time to finish with Alec - she just needs to work out how. Meanwhile, Simon shocks everyone by announcing he's going to quit his job and fly to South America with an open-ended plane ticket. On Saturday.
