Huck frees himself from the isolated cabin his father had locked him in and ransacks the place to make it look like robbers have kidnapped him. Pap concludes that Huck has been killed, but the boy has fled to uninhabited Jackson Island. Pap rants to townsfolk that Huck is dead. A search fails to find him, and Huck feels he is free at last.
