Todd Marker, 13, is having a tough time because his dad recently died and his mother is never at home because she always has to work late. To help out his mother Todd answers an ad to be the assistant of a magician called Shandu. Todd thought it might be a fun job but he finds it difficult--he is not a natural. Things start to go badly when Todd breaks the first magical rule by touching Shandu's magic wand. Although the wand brings him wonderful powers, it unleashes a demon called Nazrak. Todd must perform the ultimate trick to make it vanish in order to save himself and his mother.
