Mark asks God to make Jonathan a cop for while. After 40 years Jonathan becomes human only to realize the harsh realities of being a policeman. Jonathan helps a police officer rid himself of his guilt after shooting a teenager while the teenager had an empty gun. When the police officer holds people hostage the father of the slain teenager tells why there were no bullets in the gun his son was carrying.

Mark runs over a girl and overwrought with guilt, he is approached by a man named Jabez Stone, who offers to let the girl live if Mark gives his boss, the Devil, his soul. Mark signs a contract thinking that it's a con or something. But when the girl lives Mark turns to Jonathan but Jonathan says that there are rules about interfering with another entity even if it's the Devil. Mark's only hope is for them to get the contract. Jonathan enlists the aid of a drifter named CJ. Barabbas to help them. The only problem is that C.J. is a mortal. On the night that Stone's boss is supposed to take possession of Mark, Jonathan puts his plan in action but is caught and arrested. Stone has the contract when his boss arrives to take Mark they are surprised to find out that the contract was switched. It seems that Barrabbus' duplicity was all part of the plan. Jonathan, who has the real contract, then destroys it and saves Mark.
When Jonathan decides to ignore the boss's next assignment he decides to stop in Rose Beach. He finds a very ill bird that dies moments later due to water contamination. Jonathan decides to try to prove the point that pollution is bad to the community of Rose Beach. He dresses up as a birdman and carries dead birds to try and prove that Drake Technology, a company in the area, is slowly poisoning its own community. The company doesn't want to admit to water contamination, but when a young boy becomes ill after touching a bird the community begins to wonder how long it will take to clean up the contaminated water before someone dies.
Jonathan and Mark have to try and help a team that can never seem to win a single game and give a former baseball star the glory he once knew some 40 years ago.
"A new play about a man who dies and speaks to God opens. Jonathan is now a priest while Mark is the dresser for Fred Fusco, the actor who plays the lead. Fusco's a little morose. But after the plays first performance, he changes and he claims that God was in the audience. People think that he is just trying to generate some publicity for the play. Nevertheless it seems to work, the play is a smash. Fusco then meets a boy who has cancer. After the boy dies, Fusco decides to donate all of his property and assets to a charity in the boys name, which makes his sister and nephew unhappy, cause they rely on him for their necessities. When he also announces that he will die soon, his sister tries to have him committed. In the end, Jonathan wants to help Fusco, so he speaks to God and asks him to show the world that Fusco is not crazy."
While on their way to visit Markís friends, Jonathan lashes back at some bullies. Because of this, Jonathan gets recalled to heaven. When Mark finally reaches his friends he inadvertently slips out a bit of info that leads his friends to reveal to their eldest daughter that she was adopted. She then set out to find her birth mother, and in the twisted process finds out that her adopted mother is her birth mother. Upon learning about this, the father takes his youngest daughter and leaves. After a little while, the couple goes to court to settle their divorce and end up forgiving each other and getting back together. In the end, because of his work with this family, Jonathan is given another chance as an angle.

Jonathan and Mark go to work for a football team. Their mission is to help Alex, a player on the team, from taking pills. Dr. Hickey, the team doctor, uses with and supplies the pills for Alex, and unknowingly for his son. Alex finally admits that he has a problem and goes to seek help. At one of the support meetings Alex is surprised and happy to find the doctor and his son both there confronting their addictions and trying to get help.
A mentally handicapped teenager is homeless and living in a box with Thomas (the cat). On his birthday, he makes a wish to live with a loving a caring family. Mark and Jonathan show up to help make his wish a reality.
Jonathan and Mark are assigned to help UFO watcher Harvey Milsap gain custody of his recently orphaned grandson Adam. Harvey's neighbor Mildred Kelsey, is furious when Harvey fools with his radio equipment while her soap is on. She tries to stay angry at him, but eventually falls in love with him.
After Mark and Jonathan are assigned to protect the famous actress Linda Blackwell, Mark and the actress switch bodies to see how the other ones life is. Sam Quigley is an old friend of Mark's who like Linda, but is to afraid to tell her. When Mark and Linda switch bodies, Sam begin to think that Linda is not really what he wants.
Jonathan runs into his old wife, but because of his new appearance and name, she does not recognize him. He goes to visit her and asks if Mark and him could stay a little while. She did not want to let them stay, but when Jonathan hints at things from their past together she agrees. They both see that she is very lonely and their daughter, who doesn't want to take the time to visit, lives far away. Jonathan sends Mark to see his daughter and asks her to come visit her mother but she and her husband refuse to do so. When Jonathan learns of this he goes to her in the disguise of a gigolo, and he riles them and they visit her.

A man's son has been MIA in Vietnam since 1968. When his remains are found, no one in his town comes to his funeral. He then tries to establish a scholarship in his son's name but the people, who don't want to be reminded of the war, don't want to be a part of it. Jonathan then invades their dreams and reminds them of how much his son has done for them, like the man whose place he took in the draft and he didn't have to, the son of the town banker whose life he saved, and so on. After the scholarship for his son is established, Jonathan tells him that it's time for him to thank God, so Jonathan places him in an old bomber plane and it takes off. Along the way Jonathan vanishes and his son appears and they go on together.

Everett Soloman is a Nazi death camp survivor, who talks about his experience. Jan Baltic is a neo-Nazi. He was having one of his gatherings wherein he says that the Holocaust was a hoax. And at this meeting is Everettís son David, who calls Jan a liar. Then Cal one of Jan's people shoots David. He dies and when word reaches Everett, he has a heart attack. Jan and Cal are in Jan's basement gloating about what they did and planning their next move. Then Jan's son grabs one of the guns Jan has lying around and shoots them. Jonathan goes to Janís wife, who is trying to wipe the blood off the walls, and she says that Jan was not always that way and Jonathan asks her when did he change and she says after he lost his job. He said that it was the Jews who were out to get him. Jonathan asks her if she would be willing to donate her husband's heart to Everett Soloman, who needs a transplant, she agrees. But Everett upon learning that it's Janís heart he will be getting, refuses. Jonathan tells him that he has responsibility to live so that he can continue to tell his story, Everett is not sure if he can still go on. Later he has a dream and the people he loved including David tells him he has to go on. He has the operation and it appears to be a success.
Jonathan helps a novelist and his son both find inspiration in writing their next books and connecting with each other again.
An overzealous TV reporter files a report on a home for teen-age mothers. The report threatens the very existence of the home. Also, a high school senior seeks advice from Jonathan on how to handle his future education, his angry father, and his pregnant girlfriend and unborn son.
Jonathan helps a brainy but severely obese girl named Jenny gain self-esteem and deal with ridicule from her "friends." At one point, the snotty girls invite Jenny over to model a swimsuit, predictably leading to humiliation and the girl to gorge herself with doughnuts. Jonathan tells her the girls aren't her friends and helps her see that she has many other gifts people appreciate. Meanwhile, the angel sees that the jock (named Jack) that Jenny is tutoring needs to have his ego shaken, particularly since he considers the girl unsightly due to her weight. Jack had wanted to have a pretty cheerleader help him, but of course Jonathan can see where that is headed.
