Dr Martin’s Ellingham’s parents, Christopher and Margaret, make a surprise visit to Cornwall to stay with their son. The doctor hasn’t spoken to his parents for seven years, and the relationship between them is barely cordial. He’s puzzled why they should turn up out of the blue to see him.
