Having tied the knot in Australia, newlyweds Pete and Jo return to the UK : but their wedded bliss is soon disrupted by the arrival of Pete's mother Audrey. Elsewhere, proud parents Adam and Rachel are delighted with their baby boy, though the stresses of child-rearing soon begin to take their toll on their marriage, and David and Karen decide to file for divorce.

Pete and Jo have to prove to immigration officers that their marriage is for real, forcing them to find out all they can about the other. Meanwhile Adam is facing a life crisis with only Rachel there to help him through it as best she can, and David and Karen's divorce takes a turn for the worst.
Terrified of being separated by immigration officials, the Giffords resolve to make the most of what could be a very short marriage. A much happier Jo ventures to Birmingham for the opening of a new fitness club, a celebration which could prove her undoing. Meanwhile, Adam is thrilled to learn he has a new job, but his delight is cut short when his landlord dies and the house is put up for auction.
Unable to afford to buy their house Adam and Rachel go house hunting. Rachel doesn't like anything and wants to stay in their house. Rachel admits to Adam that she wrote to him after the birth of baby Matthew. Jo goes away with work for the weekend and ends up in a situation with Lee which she confesses to Karen. Karen is shocked to learn of David's affair with Robyn.
Adam and Rachel finally embark on family life after the arrival of their son - Matt, and Adam quickly realises that his life has changed forever. Pete and Jo (with mother-in-law in tow) return to England, but find their life isn't quite as easy as it was in Oz. David and Karen struggle to conduct and amicable divorce, whilst Ramona find love with a local lifeguard.
